- The water drop test. Put a drop of water on a printed line. Laser toner stays put; inkjet ink spreads.
- The highlighter test. Run a highlighter over the text. A laser print stays clean; cheap prints smear.
- Small print. Look at footnotes and subscripts. At 600 DPI they should be crisp, not fuzzy.
