PDF Page Counter Tool Count pages across hundreds of PDFs — or one whole folder — in a single click
Pick your files, or point the tool at a folder and it walks every subfolder inside it on its own. You get the page count of every PDF, a grand total, and a one-click Excel report. Locked files ask for a password, broken files are flagged, and nothing is ever uploaded to a server.
- Whole folders, one clickSubfolders included, no dragging file by file
- No upload, no signupEverything runs inside your own browser
- Locked PDFs handledEnter the password and it counts normally
- Excel & CSV exportA clean report of every file and the totals
Your browser may warn you before giving access to a folder — that is normal browser behaviour, and the warning is about your browser, not about us. Nothing is uploaded or stored: every file is read on your own device and disappears when you close the tab.

How do you count the total pages in multiple PDF files?
Open this page, click Choose PDF files and select as many PDFs as you like — or click Choose a folder and pick a folder, and every PDF inside it and inside all of its subfolders is counted automatically. The tool reads each file in your browser, shows the page count of every file, and adds up a grand total. Password-protected PDFs prompt for their password; damaged files are marked in red and skipped without stopping the rest. When it finishes you can download an Excel or CSV report of the whole batch.
It is free, needs no account, and no file is uploaded anywhere — the counting happens entirely on your own device, so confidential material never leaves your computer.

The folder button is the part nobody else has
Most page counters make you select files one screen at a time. If your material is spread across a folder tree — chapter folders, subject folders, one folder per student — that is an afternoon of clicking.
One click, the whole tree
Choose a folder and the tool walks it and every subfolder inside it, at any depth, finds every PDF, and counts them all. Non-PDF files are ignored automatically.
You see the path, not just the name
Each row shows the file with its folder path, so two files called notes.pdf in different folders never get confused with each other.
Nothing leaves the folder
Folder access is read-only and local. The browser hands the file contents to the page, the page counts pages, and that is the end of it. No copy, no upload, no server.
Drag and drop works too
Drag files or a folder straight onto the drop area if that is quicker than the file picker.
A note on browsers. Folder selection works in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and other Chromium browsers on desktop, and in Safari on macOS. Firefox and mobile browsers may only offer the multi-file picker — you can still select hundreds of files at once there. Nothing about the counting changes.

How to count PDF pages, step by step
1. Choose files or a folder
Select any number of PDFs, or pick one folder and let it read every subfolder inside.
2. Watch it scan
A progress bar shows how far along the batch is. Big batches keep going in the background.
3. Unlock anything locked
If a PDF is password-protected you are asked for the password so it can be counted too.
4. Read the totals
Pages per file, total pages, sheets if printed front-back, and any files that could not be read.
5. Export or send
Download the Excel or CSV report, copy the summary, or send the totals to us on WhatsApp for a quote.

Why the page count decides your printing bill
Printing is priced per printed side. Guessing the page count is the single most common reason a quote comes back different from what someone expected.
A page is one printed side
500 pages printed front and back uses 250 sheets of paper. The tool shows both numbers, so you can check a quote yourself instead of taking it on trust.
Front-back nearly halves the cost of paper, weight and courier
Fewer sheets means a lighter parcel and a cheaper binding. Once you know the sheet count you can see the saving before you order.
Colour pages are the expensive ones
Use our colour page separator to pull colour pages into their own file, then count each batch here. On a mixed book this commonly halves the bill.
Bulk minimums are counted in pages
Our cheapest rates start at 500 pages. Knowing the true total tells you instantly whether you have crossed the line into the bulk rate.

PDF page counter — questions people ask
How do I count the pages in many PDF files at once?
Click Choose PDF files and select them all together, or click Choose a folder and pick the folder they live in — every PDF inside it and inside its subfolders is counted in one pass. The page count of each file and the grand total appear in a table you can export.
Does it really read subfolders as well?
Yes. Choosing a folder scans the entire tree beneath it, however deep, and picks out every PDF. Files that are not PDFs are skipped automatically, and each row shows the folder path so you always know which file is which.
Is it free, and is there a limit on how many files I can count?
It is completely free, with no signup and no file limit, for personal and business use alike. Very large batches simply take a little longer, and the progress bar shows you where it is.
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are read on your own device and are never transmitted anywhere, which is why it also works with the internet disconnected once the page has loaded. Confidential case files, exam papers and manuscripts stay with you.
Can it count pages in a password-protected PDF?
Yes. When a locked file comes up you are asked for its password. Enter it and the file is counted like any other. If you skip it or the password is wrong, that one file is marked as unreadable and the rest of the batch carries on.
What happens with a corrupt or damaged PDF?
It is flagged in red in the results table so you can see exactly which file needs attention, and the batch continues. That makes the tool a quick way to find broken files in an archive, not just to count pages.
Can I export the results?
Yes — download an Excel (.xlsx) report or a CSV, copy a plain-text summary to your clipboard, or send the totals straight to us on WhatsApp. The export lists every file name and path, its page count or failure reason, and the overall totals.
What does "sheets if printed front-back" mean?
A page is one printed side. Printing front and back puts two pages on one sheet of paper, so 500 pages becomes 250 sheets. That sheet number is what decides paper cost, parcel weight, courier charges and which binding fits, so the tool shows it alongside the page total.
Which browsers support the folder button?
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and other Chromium browsers on desktop, plus Safari on macOS. Firefox and phone browsers may only show the multi-file picker — you can still select hundreds of files at once, and everything else works identically.
Why should I count pages before sending a print job?
Printing is charged per printed side, so the page count is the quote. Knowing the real total lets you compare rates honestly, see whether you have crossed a bulk minimum, and check the invoice afterwards. You can send us the total on WhatsApp and get a firm price straight back.
Does the tool change or store my files in any way?
No. It opens each file read-only to ask how many pages it has, then forgets it. Nothing is written, renamed, moved or kept, and closing the tab clears everything.
Can I use this for work, or for a client's documents?
Yes. There is no licence to buy and no restriction on commercial use. Because nothing leaves the device, it is also suitable for documents you are not allowed to upload to an online converter.
