Dark-mode notes, slides with a black fill and grey scanned pages waste toner and often will not print cleanly. Drop the file in, pick what to fix, and download a clean white-background copy. Everything runs on your own device — nothing is uploaded.
Anything lighter than this goes pure white. Raise it if faint text is disappearing, lower it if grey patches remain.
Anything darker than this goes solid black, so faded scans print sharp. Set to 0 to leave text untouched.
600 DPI is the most our printers resolve. Above 300 DPI files get big and slow, and a page that is already a 300 DPI scan gains nothing from being rendered higher.
Our black-and-white machines cannot print pages with a full background fill or reverse matter — white text on a dark fill. Running the file through this tool first turns those pages into normal black-on-white pages, so the job can be printed at regular bulk rates.
If the file is a real text PDF, the tool does not convert it to pictures. It inverts the page at PDF level, so the letters stay as vectors — printed at full 600 DPI on our machines, still selectable and searchable, and roughly the same file size as the original. Only scans and exported images are rasterised, because pushing a grey background to white has to be done pixel by pixel.
Lecture slides and app-exported notes often come with a black or navy background. Printed as they are, they soak toner, come out muddy and cost far more. Invert them and they read like a normal page.
Phone scans of books and notebooks carry a grey cast and shadow along the spine. The clean-up setting pushes that to white while the text darkening brings faded handwriting back.
Colour printing is accepted on white-background files only. Tick “protect colour content” and the greys are cleaned while your photos and charts stay exactly as they are.
